There are two programs on your computer that you can run to optimize its performance: Glary Utilities and Bitdefender. The steps below cover how to run a disk cleanup using these programs. If you have any questions about your computer's performance, talk to IT.
Running Glary Utilities
1. Click on the Glary Utilities program. If you do not know where it is, search for Glary on your Windows search bar and it should pop up as the first option.
2. Once the program opens, click Advanced Tools. Then click on Disk Cleanup.
3. If you have a browser or a program that has any type of cache open, you might see this alert asking for your permission to close it. You don’t have to close all the programs every time, but doing so once in a while is a good idea so that your browser cache gets cleaned up.
4. After your computer is scanned, you will see a summary of files that Glary found to clean out. Click "Start Cleaning." This process may take a couple of minutes.
5. After the disk cleanup is finished, click the 1-Click Maintenance tab. Check off each box. Then, click on the "Scan for Issues" button.
Note: If you do not want to come back and click the "Repair" button after the scan is done, make sure to mark the “Automatically repair” box shown below in the second screenshot. Also, if you are doing this right before you leave and you want your PC to shut down after it's done with the scanning and repairing, click “Shut down PC."
Running Bitdefender
Since we have Bitdefender as our antivirus, we have the option to run the OneClick Optimizer on their end to help our computers to run a little bit faster or at least to help it so it does not run too slow. Who said enough cleaning is enough?
Just kidding! You can choose whether or not to do this; however, it's always good to do it once in a while. There are many things that your computer saves in its memory that, with time, can make it run slower. So, let’s begin! 😊
1. Open Bitdefender. If you do not know where it is, you can use the Windows Search bar. Once Bitdefender is open, click "Utilities" on the sidebar. Inside Utilities, click the "Optimize" button under the second box called "OneClick Optimizer."
2. You will see a screen searching for issues. After this scan is finished, a new screen will ask you which three types of cleanups you want to run. Check "Disk Cleanup" and "Privacy Cleanup." Click the "Optimize" button to initiate the optimization.
