After you've converted your course into an online format using iSpring, it's important that the course undergoes a final review. This ensures that we catch any small grammatical and formatting errors before releasing the product to our customers.
You will need to ask someone who has not already edited your project to review the course in SCORM Cloud. A third or even fourth set of eyes on the project is always best!
***Note: Remember that the online version of the course is the second one now in circulation. If the SCORM reviewer finds any errors that are specific to the course, not just the online settings, you must fix these in the online version and the kit version.
Uploading the Course
The zipped folder that iSpring creates when you publish a course is called a "SCORM package." This includes all of the assets that make a course interactive and usable online, such as audio files, and images, quiz questions.
In order to beta test the online course, you need to upload the SCORM package to the SCORM Cloud Library. Go to cloud.scorm.com. You can sign in using the credentials saved in Last Pass. Next, go to Add Content, then Import a SCORM package.
Under Choose File, click Browse and navigate to the zipped folder that was published into the SCORM 2004 folder. Click Open and then Import Course. The upload will take a couple of minutes, so hang tight!
Launching the Course
If you have agreed to review a course for one of your teammates, it's important that you get right on it. This is the final checkpoint before a developer gets to put their course on the LMS, so you don't want to hold them up too much here.
Go to cloud.scorm.com and click on Library. From here, you should find the SCORM package waiting for you. After selecting the correct course, click Launch. This will open the course in a new window.
What to Look for
There are several things you will want to look out for while reviewing the course:
- Outline. Every slide that has a header should be titled in the outline. The outline should not have numbers in the slide titles. The main sections should have dropdowns that reveal the contents of that section. There shouldn't be any grammar or punctuation errors in the slide titles.
- Quiz Questions. The answer that comes up as correct needs to actually be correct. The questions should allow only one attempt. The user should receive feedback for each question response they select, whether or not their selection is correct.
- Final Exam Slide. Click the Begin the Exam button. It should exit the window. If it doesn't, the button is not properly linked in the PowerPoint presentation.
- Audio. Text to Speech can be finicky. The AI is good, but it isn't perfect. If you notice that the voice mispronounces anything or sounds otherwise unnatural, take note of it so the writer can fix it. Note that the narrator does not need to read off headers or information boxes; it just needs to read the contents of the white text boxes on each slide.
- Navigation Buttons. At the bottom of the window, you should see buttons for Previous, Next, Play, Replay, Mute, and Expand. You should not have a seekbar down there. Also, look out for any menus at the top of the window or in the upper corner. Remember, we don't use a Notes, Presenter, or Markup Tab.
- Safety Provisions Logo. Above the outline, there should be a Safety Provisions logo displayed in color (not black and white).
Besides checking for the correct iSpring settings, you should also conduct a typical grammar/content edit. You should be able to identify a clear "why" for the training. Just like with the typical edit, if there is any content you are still confused about by the end of the training, let the writer know. Likewise, you should point out any awkward wording or grammatical issues.
